Privacy notice
Your finds are personal.
This notice describes the data flows in Found That Thing as currently implemented. It is a plain-English product notice, not a promise of a fixed retention schedule or a statement about every jurisdiction.

Information we handle
We handle account information used for sign-in, including an email address and any account profile fields you provide. We also handle photos, item details, identification results, saved-find notes and status, and feedback you submit.
If you use a shared reseller workspace, the service also handles workspace names, membership roles, invitations, and subscription-status fields. If you choose to use checkout, the configured platform-hosted checkout receives the information needed to process that purchase; Found That Thing does not collect payment-card details in this web app.
Why we use it
We use submitted photos and details to identify an item, create and save your find record, show research and resale guidance, provide account and workspace features, and respond to your requests. Your result and feedback may also be used to improve service quality only where you separately choose the optional learning consent.
When configured, the web app also uses PostHog for product analytics. Its current browser configuration can use cookies and local storage for page views, interaction analytics, and checkout attribution. You can manage browser storage through your browser settings; doing so may not prevent all essential service activity.
Optional research and learning
Visual-match research is off until you choose a saved photo and affirmatively check the permission box. That selected photo is sent to the visual-search provider for that search. The code does not establish a separate visual-search retention period, so we do not make a non-persistence promise.
Marketplace research may query eBay and Etsy when those integrations are configured. It uses an identification query, not your account credentials. Research sources and links returned with a find are evidence only and may be unavailable or change.
Learning consent is separate and off by default. When you opt in with feedback, the service stores a de-identified learning candidate for private founder review. That candidate omits your profile and public photo URLs, and it does not automatically retrain a model.
Service providers and disclosures
The current product uses Convex for application data, authentication, and file storage; OpenAI for image-assisted identification; and, when configured, PostHog analytics, SerpApi visual search, eBay research, Etsy research, and platform-hosted checkout. We may disclose information to these providers only as needed to operate the applicable feature, or when required to protect the service, users, or legal rights.
We do not make a claim here that personal information is sold or that every disclosure is a “sale” or “sharing” under every privacy law. We also do not promise absolute security.
Your choices and requests
You can choose whether to submit a photo, use optional visual-match research, or opt in to learning feedback. You can update saved-find information through the app where those controls are available.
To request access, correction, or deletion of account or find data, email team@found-that-thing.madethis.app from the email associated with your account. The product currently has no self-service account-deletion tool. We may need to verify a request and retain limited information where necessary for security, legal, or operational reasons; we do not promise an immediate or automatic deletion timeline.
Changes and contact
We may update this notice as the service changes. A new date will appear at the top of this page. Questions about this notice can be sent to team@found-that-thing.madethis.app.
